The Cambrian Symphony's mission is not only to entertain through classical music, but to work with our community to support the next generation of musicians. With that in mind, we have developed ties with several institutions of learning and hope to continue to branch out to more schools that would like the unique experience of collaborating with a high caliber symphony orchestra. There are currently no fees associated with our educational component, just the expectation of thorough preparation for rehearsal. For more information on how to connect with the Cambrian Symphony and its educational outreach please contact us at [email protected]. Below is a list of organizations and schools that are currently working with the musicians of the Cambrian Symphony. Castillero Middle School Located in San Jose's Almaden Valley, Castillero is considered an Academic and Visual and Performing Arts School with over 1,000 involved in band, choir, orchestra, dance and drama and all 1,300 students covered when we add the visual arts. With incredible parent and administrative support, Castillero offers the arts to all students with a diverse population that gets the opportunity to shine in the arts via the free and equal access campaign that is the part of the very fabric of the programs on campus. Castillero feeds, Lincoln, Pioneer, Gunderson, Willow Glen, Leland and San Jose High. We currently are working closely with Pioneer and Lincoln and other arts teachers, several that perform with us on regular occasion. Saratoga High School Saratoga High School is one of California's greatest schools. With unparalleled academic rigor, Saratoga High is also considered to have one of the finest and most developed performing arts programs led by Michael Boitz. Their performance venue, the McAfee, is stunning. The students are nothing short of excellent in terms of achievement and performance in the arts and the teachers continue to work to balance the pressures of modern day education and needs of a well balanced and caring environment for their students. Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Under the direction of Ben Simon and Kris Yenney, PACO (pay-co) offers string students in the bay area the unique opportunity to play in small chamber orchestras topping out at 25 members per level. Their strong concept of learning through chamber music and "play well with others" inspired a documentary about the positive effects of music and small group collaboration on the development of any child, but especially in the high stakes arena of Palo Alto schools. San Jose Dance Theatre Professionally, the Cambrian Symphony is linked exclusively with the San Jose Dance Theatre which is in its 51st year of performing The Nutcracker in downtown San Jose. It is with great joy that we continue this partnership with the SJDT board of directors and Artistic Director, Linda Hurkmans. They have recently revived their studio and now offer classes year round with internationally renowned guests and artists. |
