CAMBRIAN SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY CONCERT METAMORPHOSIS WITH FAMED SOLOIST JULIO ELIZALDE
SAN JOSE, California – Recently named “Best of the Bay” in two categories by San Francisco Classical Voice, Cambrian Symphony is pleased to announce its second concert of the 2017-2018 season, Metamorphosis. This concert will feature acclaimed pianist Julio Elizalde performing Piano Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky and Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber written by Paul Hindemith.
“I love the idea of change and that through time, perspectives morph, memories evolve and experiences become threads in the fabric of our journey. With Cambrian Symphony’s second concert, we and the audience will experience the full array of human emotion through Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto, which will be brought to the concert stage by the exceptional Julio Elizalde,” said Scott Krijnen, conductor for Cambrian Symphony. “We continue the journey with two epic masterworks, the Firebird Suite and Symphonic Metamorphosis which feature one of the few constants in life - change. We see, experience, and process, and as time moves, we reflect, we review, we grow. These pieces are a conduit for us to experience these cycles in the course of an evening and I know that everyone involved from the audience to the stage will remember the impact of the music and have an opportunity to anchor their memories in this particular shared moment.”
Cambrian Symphony’s guest soloist for Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 is the renowned Julio Elizalde. Praised as a musician of "compelling artistry and power" by the Seattle Times, the gifted American pianist Julio Elizalde is a multi-faceted artist who enjoys a versatile career as soloist, chamber musician, artistic administrator, educator, and curator. He has performed in many of the major music centers throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America to popular and critical acclaim. Since 2014, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Olympic Music Festival near Seattle, Washington. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. Elizalde received a bachelor of music degree with honors from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Paul Hersh. He holds masters and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Jerome Lowenthal, Joseph Kalichstein, and Robert McDonald.
“I am very excited to join the Cambrian Symphony to perform Rachmaninoff's incredible Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor,” said Mr. Elizalde. “The work is a challenging yet extraordinary collaboration between piano and orchestra and I am fortunate to have such a supportive partner in Maestro Scott Krijnen and the powerful ensemble he has helped to develop during his tenure.”
The free concert will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at San Jose State University's Music Concert Hall at 7:30 pm. Reserve seats at www.cambriansymphony.org. Cambrian Symphony’s season also includes a Children’s Concert on Saturday, March 31st and the season finale concert on Saturday, June 9th.
