CAMBRIAN SYMPHONY PRESENTS MOMENTS IN TIME
- Soloist Keisuke Nakagoshi joins Cambrian Symphony for Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin -
SAN JOSE, California – Named “Best of the Bay” in two categories by San Francisco Classical Voice in 2017, Cambrian Symphony is pleased to announce Moments In Time, a concert celebrating some of the classical world’s most familiar music as it continues its 2018 - 2019 season. To begin the concert, Cambrian Symphony will perform Aaron Copland’s Billy the Kid which was originally written for the ballet by the same name. Next, the orchestra welcomes back Keisuke Nakagoshi, who will be our piano soloist for George Gershwin’s most-widely recognized piece, Rhapsody in Blue. To conclude the program, Cambrian Symphony will perform Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi which is most notably heard in Disney’s Fantasia 2000.
“Rhapsody in Blue is always a pleasure to listen to and perform, and it is especially wonderful to welcome back Keisuke Nakagoshi,” said Scott Krijnen, conductor for Cambrian Symphony. “Gershwin offers a truly American genre by the brilliant use of jazz on the concert stage. We then add a couple of epics works by Copland and Respighi, and you’ve got yourself three incredible Moments in Time! Audiences will enjoy the strength and grandness of Pines of Rome as well as the expansive and open world of the west with Billy the Kid. I am proud and excited to provide this music to our audiences.”
"I'm very excited to be in another collaboration with the Cambrian Symphony and the amazing maestro Scott Krijnen,” said Mr. Nakagoshi. “It has been almost three years since our last collaboration of the majestically romantic Rachmaninoff 2nd piano concerto. This time it is pure joy and fun to be playing Rhapsody in Blue. It will be a completely different ride from the last one but I'm so ready for it and can't wait!”
Keisuke Nakagoshi has performed to acclaim on prestigious concert stages across the United States, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl. He has received training from Emanuel Ax, Gilbert Kalish, Menahem Pressler, and Paul Hersh, and enjoys collaborating with other accomplished musicians such as Lucy Shelton, Ian Swensen, Jodi Levitz, Gary Schocker, and Lev Polyakin, and conductors such as Alasdair Neale, Nicole Paiement, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Herbert Blomstedt. Mr. Nakagoshi is Pianist-in-Residence at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the award-winning Opera Parallele. Keisuke and Swiss pianist Eva-Maria Zimmermann formed ZOFO in 2009, a piano duet team commissioning and performing music for piano four hands, and their first CD was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance in 2013.
This free concert will be held on Saturday, March 30th at San Jose State University's Music Concert Hall at 7:30 pm. For more information, please visit www.cambriansymphony.org.
The Cambrian Symphony will conclude their 2018-2019 season with a finale concert on June 8, 2019.
