CAMBRIAN SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES MARCH CHILDREN’S CONCERT FRONTIERS
- Actor David Kennett to Narrate Peter and the Wolf -
SAN JOSE, California – Recently named “Best of the Bay” in two categories by San Francisco Classical Voice, Cambrian Symphony is pleased to announce its third concert of the 2017-2018 season, Frontiers. This concert features musical selections tailored to delight the imagination of children and will be fun for the entire family.
The concert will begin with Prokofiev's popular Peter and the Wolf, narrated by accomplished actor David Kennett. Next, there will be selections from The Planets by Gustav Holst, accompanied by a light show that will captivate the audience. Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian, Fiddle-Faddle by Leroy Anderson and Hoe-Down from Rodeo by Aaron Copland round out the program. Live sketch art will be projected for audiences to not only hear the orchestra but “see” the music come to life.
"It is so much fun to collaborate across disciplines. Bringing in a narrator, lighting, a sketch artist, and musicians in surround sound adds several new dimensions to our concert presentation,” said Scott Krijnen, conductor for Cambrian Symphony. “We are thrilled to engage the energy of our younger audience members as they experience The Planets, Peter and the Wolf, and all of the colors and sounds of the symphony orchestra. See you there!"
“I recently had the opportunity to hear the Cambrian Symphony perform The Nutcracker and their recent concert Metamorphosis and I am honored to have been asked to be the narrator for Peter and the Wolf,” said David Kennett. “I am excited to introduce the various instruments of the orchestra as characters to the children and see their response. This will be an enlightening experience for me as well as the audience because I am not a musician and this is a journey of
discovery for me too.”
David Kennett is a graduate of Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City and studied with Sanford Meisner. Upon graduation, he completed a three-year apprenticeship with the Tony Award-winning Trinity Square Repertory Theater in Providence, Rhode Island and became a permanent member of the company for twenty years. Mr. Kennett has appeared in over sixty professional productions. One of Mr. Kennett’s career highlights was a government-
sponsored goodwill tour of India and Syria with a production Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and Buried Child by Sam Shepard. Mr. Kennett has also appeared in several feature films and television series shot in Boston and the Providence and Newport areas of Rhode Island. Notably, these include the film Mr. North (1988) and television productions Feasting with
Panthers (1974), Brother to Dragons (1975), Spenser: For Hire, and The Big Fight (1988). Mr. Kennett currently lives in El Granada, California with his wife, Paula and their Jack Russell terrier, Jack.
The free concert will be held on Saturday, March 31st at San Jose State University's Music Concert Hall at 3:00 pm. Reserve seats at www.cambriansymphony.org. Cambrian Symphony’s season will conclude on Saturday, June 9th at 7:30 pm with a concert in collaboration with the San Jose Symphonic Choir.
