SAN JOSÉ DANCE THEATRE AND CAMBRIAN SYMPHONY TO COLLABORATE FOR 53RD PRODUCTION OF THE NUTCRACKER

SAN JOSE, California – One of the Bay Area's leading classical ballet institutions, San José Dance Theatre (SJDT) is pleased to announce its continued partnership with the Cambrian Symphony. The Cambrian Symphony will provide over 90 musicians for the 2018 production of The Nutcracker. Scott Krijnen, Cambrian Symphony's conductor, and Linda Hurkmans, SJDT's Artistic Director, join forces for the sixth year to bring live music and dance to Tchaikovsky's holiday ballet. .

San José Dance Theatre has provided generations of audiences with the magic of The Nutcracker. Now in its 53rd year, SJDT’s production is San Jose’s original and longest-running production of The Nutcracker and is the second longest running production in the Bay Area.  Audiences will enjoy the grace and talent of San José Dance Theatre's world-class guest artists, including former dancers with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alison Stroming and Fredrick Davis on December 7-9, and former dancers with the Cincinnati Ballet, Claire Rathbun and Jake Casey on December 14-16. Also gracing the stage portraying the Snow Queen will be Shaina Liebson and Karin Dun, and former Principal Dancer with Miami City Ballet, David Fonnegra, portraying the Snow King.

"I am so excited to be working with The Cambrian Symphony again! This will be our 6th year of collaboration and San José Dance Theatre's 53rd year of producing The Nutcracker!  It is an honor and a pleasure to work with Maestro Scott Krijnen,” said Linda Hurkmans, San José Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director. “Scott is a talented and accomplished conductor and such a joyful and dedicated leader!  Cambrian Symphony is a talented group of professional musicians and students that make our production of The Nutcracker one of the best events of the holiday season.  The energy that a live symphony provides adds a rich dimension for the dancers and the Cambrian Symphony is one of the best orchestras in the area."

“I love the opportunity to bring this wonderful holiday tradition to life and celebrate the joy of storytelling through music and dance,” said Scott Krijnen, Cambrian Symphony’s conductor. “Collaborating with the San José Dance Theatre is always a thrill and I look forward to sharing this year’s production with our community!”

San José Dance Theatre's 53rd production of The Nutcracker will take place at the San José Center for Performing Arts, with 8 performances December 7-9 and December 14-16, 2018. Tickets are available at www.sjnutcracker.com.
