CAMBRIAN SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES OPENING CONCERT OF 2016-2017 SEASON
- Soloist Keisuke Nakagoshi to perform Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto on September 23 -
SAN JOSE, California – One of the Bay Area's premier orchestras, Cambrian Symphony, is pleased to announce its new season with the opening concert Friday, September 23rd featuring Keisuke Nakagoshi performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. The orchestra will also be performing Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
Keisuke Nakagoshi has performed to acclaim on prestigious concert stages across the United States, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. He has received training from Emanuel Ax, Gilbert Kalish, Menahem Pressler, and Paul Hersh, and enjoys collaborating with other accomplished musicians such as Lucy Shelton, Ian Swensen, Jodi Levitz, Gary Schocker, and Lev Polyakin, and conductors such as Alasdair Neale, Nicole Paiement, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Herbert Blomstedt. Mr. Nakagoshi is Pianist-in-Residence at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the award-winning Opera Parallele. Keisuke and Swiss pianist Eva-Maria Zimmermann formed ZOFO in 2009, a piano duet team commissioning and performing music for piano four hands, and their first CD was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance in 2013.
Mr. Nakagoshi is thrilled to be joining Silicon Valley's elite symphony which pairs professional adult musicians and high-level local middle and high school students. Mr. Nakagoshi said, “I'm extremely excited to be performing Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto with the Cambrian Symphony and conductor Scott Krijnen to help open their second season. I have collaborated with Scott as a cellist on several other occasions, but I am looking forward to working with him as a conductor. This is such a great honor.”
Conductor Scott Krijnen said, “I am so excited to reunite with not only the wonderful musicians of the Cambrian Symphony, but also with one of my dear friends, Keisuke Nakagoshi, in a performance of one of classical music's most powerful and well-received piano concertos, Rachmaninoff's 2nd! And, what better way to start a new season than with the New World Symphony by Dvorak! Sharing these great works with our community is an absolute joy and I look forward to bringing the notes off of the page and into the concert hall!”
The free concert will be held on Friday, September 23rd at San Jose State's Music Concert Hall at 7:30 pm. There will be two additional concerts this season, February 3, 2017 and June 16, 2017. Cambrian Symphony will also be partnering with the San Jose Dance Theatre to perform The Nutcracker on December 2 – 4 and December 9 – 11, 2016 at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts.
